ALL WOMEN can benefit from thermography.  It can be especially appropriate for younger women whose denser breast tissue can make it more difficult for mammography to be effective.  Also for women of all ages who, for many reasons, are unable to undergo routine mammography.  

 It takes years for a tumor to grow thus the earliest possible indication of abnormality is needed to allow for the earliest possible treatment and intervention.  

IS THERMOGRAPHY THE SAME AS A MAMMOGRAM?

Breast thermography is not a replacement or alternative for mammography or any other form of breast imaging. Breast thermography is meant to be used in addition to mammography and other tests. Breast thermography and mammography are complementary procedures, one does not replace the other. All thermography reports are meant to identify thermal emissions that suggest potential risk markers only and do not in any way suggest diagnosis and/or treatment. No breast screening is 100% accurate. I DON’T WANT UNNECESSARY EXPOSURE TO RADIATION

Thermography does not use any radiation. It only involves taking a picture of the heat that you are naturally producing.

HOW CAN A PICTURE DETECT ANYTHING?

This “picture” is taken with a very hi-tech camera that detects minute changes in temperature patterns. The data collected is then evaluated by medical doctors with expertise in thermography.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

Wear something that is comfortable, and that is easy to move or remove. Your practitioner may need to access your neck, shoulders, back, abdomen, or other body areas. Tank tops, loose t-shirts, and athletic shorts make appointments easy. We have have gowns, sheets, and drapes if you need to undress.

HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TO COME BACK?

FOR BREAST IMAGING

• You will come back 3 months after your initial appointment to establish a baseline.

• Then we recommend you return annually.

FOR OTHER IMAGING

• It varies based on the type of imaging. Your thermography technician will guide you.
